Sideline allows you to search and monitor the public timeline of Twitter. It’s an Adobe Air desktop app, built with the Yahoo! User Interface Library.

Disclaimer: I’m a Yahoo! Philippines employee. Still, I can assure you that Sideline is a pretty neat tool.

Back in October, I blogged about Filipino couple Michael Paul and Jennifer, who were hoping to reach the finals of the Ultimate Thailand Explorers competition, in which contestants would use blogs and social networks to chronicle their adventures in Thailand.

I’m happy to share that they made it to the finals, vying with four other couples for the top prize. They’re now asking for the help of fellow Filipino Internet users to check out their blog, vote for them, and help spread the word.

While I don’t agree with the article entirely, it does raise good points on the need to vet stories posted and spread through social networks, and the kind of dedication and courage it takes for journalists to actually cover news events.

Ironically, rumors of an affair with a sexy young actress may have done more to hurt boxing’s pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao than tough erstwhile welterweight champion Miguel Cotto.

A number of Filipino Internet users are expressing their support for Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee and outrage at the alleged affair with starlet Krista Ranillo, to the point of creating a #teamjinkee hashtag on Twitter (others have also created #teamkrista and the more tongue-in-cheek #teamdionisia, referring to Pacquiao’s mother).

As you might expect, the number of people tweeting about Pacquiao has made the world’s best pound for pound boxer a Top Trending Topic, namely his nickname, Pacman.
