$2.16 million for Action Comics 1

Dec 01 2011

That’s a lot of money for a comic book! Then again, it’s an almost pristine copy of the legendary comic book where Superman first made his appearance.

This sets the record for the most money ever fetched by a single comic book in an auction.

It’s the first time a comic book has broken the $2 million barrier. The issue was published in 1938 and cost just 10 cents.

“When we broke the record in 2010 by selling the Action Comics No. 1, graded at 8.5, for $1.5 million, I truly believed that this was a record that would stand for many years to come,” said Stephen Fishler, CEO of ComicConnect.com and Metropolis Collectibles.

Read the rest of the article.

Here’s a video report days before the auction that gives more details about this particular copy of Action Comics 1.

On that note, which comic books are you currently reading?

RIP Steve Jobs

Oct 06 2011

Today is indeed a sad day, as we bid goodbye to a true genius and visionary in Steve Jobs.

Here’s an excerpt from my blog post for Yahoo! Philippines.

The phrase “end of an era” is often overused, but today, it perfectly captures the shock and sadness of learning that an icon and genius has passed away at age 56.

Steve Jobs is dead.

It’s still hard to believe.

Check out the story, which incorporates comments from the Yahoo! Philippines community. And do visit our Steve Jobs tribute wall.

You may tweet your message to @YahooPH if you would like your comment to appear there.

Let’s take to heart what Steve Jobs said: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

Thank you, Steve.
