On my way home last night, I heard on DZMM radio that presidential aspirant Senator Manny Villar is inviting Wowowee host Willie Revillame, who is on indefinite leave from the show after the furor caused by his remarks on the Cory Aquino cortege video, to run for senator in the Nacionalista Party ticket.
What?
An online petition calling for Revillame’s ouster has gathered nearly 50,000 signatures already; the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board has filed a complaint and called for the preventive suspension of Revillame; Facebook users have launched the Anti Willie Revillame Movement Facebook Group; and different organizations like the Alyansa ng Filipinong Mamamahayag have issued statements against Revillame, and somehow all this convinced Villar that Revillame should run for senator?
Here’s an excerpt from the abs-cbnNews.com story. Read it and weep.
“Oo, naman, very qualified naman si Willie, wala naman akong nakikitang problema kay Willie,” Villar said. “Yun ay isang bagay na dapat niyang pagisipan.”
Villar visited Revillame in Tagaytay after he found out about the controversy involving Revillame’s move to cut the live streaming of the late President Corazon Aquino’s August 3 procession which was being shown simultaneously on Wowowee through an inset video.
Revillame’s move irked many viewers and prompted him to go on indefinite leave from his popular entertainment show. Nearly 50,000 have expressed support for an online petition seeking Revillame’s ouster from Wowowee.
Villar said that although he didn’t get to watch that controversial Wowowee episode, he nonetheless wants to express his support for the popular host.
I guess we should expect it by now, but this move again shows how politics in this country mainly revolves around personalities, rather than principles. A controversial but popular TV host, despite all his past and present sins, is “very qualified” if a politician uses the twisted logic of “winnability” that is so prevalent in this country.
Villar, however, should rethink this decision. Already, those reacting to this news on Facebook and my Twitter and Plurk timelines are saying this would make them think twice about voting Villar for president, as this move to make Revillame a senator is an indication of Villar’s decision making process.
Not only that, but many of the people who are calling for Revillame’s ouster are Filipinos abroad — overseas Filipino workers and Fil-Ams who were outraged when they saw that Wowowee episode on TFC.
How do you think all these people will react to the thought of Revillame becoming senator? How do you think they will feel about Villar making this a possibility?
The sad thing is that people who otherwise would have voted for Villar are now disappointed in him because of this move.
That’s a thought that should give him pause.
Please, Senator Manny Villar, ‘wag magpadala sa maling akala.
Yeah, that really made me think twice. The controversy is still on heat, then Villar will make that statement? Whatta???!!!
Free Willy! go Willy! what will ever happen to us youth????
filipinos…are we going back to this again?when are we going to learn?..i have nothing against wiIIy or manny..but,please…putting wiIIie on your ticket is a mistake..Manny,dont go on to this possible mistake. With unfinish controversies, lies, unprofessional act, unlikely manner still your thinking HE’S very qualified?…ok lets pretend you won the presidency..how many those kind of highly qualified government officials we will expect from you?…open your eyes..leave willy alone..he have is own world..first clear he’s acts then do whatever he wants to do…
SIRA ULO RIN PALA SI VILLAR EH OMG
Majority of the voters are probably masses who still cling to the thought that senator Willie will give away cash to anyone caught dancing “Iyugyug mo” in public. Villar is probably banking on that thought. The anti-willie movements could only be 30% against 70% of willie lovers.
Sen. Villar needs Willie just like Noynoy needs Kris. If you want to win, you have to have a lot of gimmicks. That’s how it is in Philippine politics.

HOW, REALLY, DID MANUEL BAMBA VILLAR JR. GET TO BE RICH? It bears to investigate and can serve the Filipino nation well to know that Manny Villar may actually have broken through from Tondo-ragged accountant to billionaire-rich presidentiable by allowing himself to be used as a foreign investor’s dummy in the Philippine real estate business. You see, the conduct of real estate business in the Philippines is made exclusive by law to Filipino citizens, necessarily because its affairs involve sensitive issues affecting civil rights, territory, sovereignty, patrimony, and national security. Wasn’t that a debonair American who was smilingly visible every day at the offices of Crown Asia Inc. way back before the Villars became political aspirants? Unfortunately, sighting American presence at the Crown Asia Inc. organization deteriorates to zero visibility in hot election weather, especially nowadays! As Manny Villar embarked on a political career, it strategically became imperative to avoid flaks of damaging controversy about being financially beholden to foreign influence, especially from nationalist camps of the likes of then Senator Teofisto Guingona Jr. who was one among legislators instrumental in passing general law limiting real estate business in the Philippines to Filipinos only. In fact, it was from 1997 to 1999 that the bespectacled, middle-aged, happy American investor (silent? fronted? non-express? implied?) of Crown Asia Inc. was last regularly observed at the 18th Floor of Cityland Herrera Tower. Apart from being born with a silver spoon, most of us often have “humble”, sometimes “rotten”, beginnings; yet being transparent about such beginnings can do even more good than harm. The answer may go as far back as Villar’s auditing days at internationally-patronized Sycip Gorres Velayo (SGV) or, perhaps, good Senator Manuel Villar would like to comment on the matter at this time?
Over and over Villiar has been showing his poor taste, though his rating has been disastrously affected, there still so many who can not see the truth in front of their face. His hands on every issues is like a smoke of questions, his endorsers of womanizer, mom crying on national television and he won't stop. Now it's willie for senator, you really are joking filipino's. Haven't he notice his rating spiraled down already signifying filipinos have better senses and taste nowadays?
Helping is a good deed, but the way i look at it, all these things was done long time ago for one purpose and i must have heard ti one time or another that he is really eyeing for presidency from way back then. So all these thing of good heart is a prelude to his intention and not really borne of good heart.
Talk about prelude, all his poor taste shown at the very peak of campaign are all a prelude to what kind of president you all are going to have once he is elected.
Martha Stewart was jailed for selling share of her company (story cut short) before the price dropped. Same idea, whatever, however, but in Phil. villiar will show you how to make it legal.
I say, you are the Captain of the ship, be the last one to jump. I am sure this is a good encouragement for businesses to invest in Phil. Oh Filipino's, you always believe in papers when you all know that they can always make it right.
It is the principles, it is the moral, it is the righteous philosophies the basis in choosing a leader. A would be leader should know where there is smoke there is fire and he will never be a part of it. I am just glad that most filipino's are now intelligent and can see this old trick. Or is it?
